BASAVA SAMITHI OF AUSTRALASIA (BSOAA) is a non-profit organisation established in 1994 at Sydney (Australia), inaugurated by Dr. Shivamurthy Shivacharya Mahaswamiji of Taralabalu Jagadguru Bruhanmutt, Sirigere, Karnataka, India. Sydney was established as the first chapter with the idea to create other Chapters in different cities of Australia and other countries in this part of the hemisphere.
Later the New Zealand Chapter of BSOAA was inaugurated by Shri Mallikarjuna Devaru of Sarpabhushan Mutt, Bangalore in May 2001. Dr Shivamurthy Murugharajendra Mahaswamiji (Murugha sharanaru) of Shri Bruhanmutt, Chitradurga, Karnataka laid a strong foundation in April 2002 of sharana philosophy in New Zealand.

Basava Samithi has been in the forefront in propagating across the world, the Basava philosophy of life and the teachings of other contemporary Sharanas of the 12th Century. Basavasamithi of New Zealand works towards practising Basava philosophy in our everyday life

Basava samithi centers are formed all over the world in order to emphasise sharana philosophy;
All the human beings are equal and live together in peace and harmony without making differences in caste, creed, race, social status, gender and religion

Basava emphasized constant personal spiritual development as the path to profound enlightenment. His philosophy revolves around treating one's own body and soul as a temple; instead of making a temple, he suggests being the temple. His trinity consisted of guru (teacher), linga (personal symbol of Shiva) and jangama (constantly moving and learning)
